One of Gen-Probe’s key growth strategies is to apply the
Company’s proprietary molecular diagnostic technologies
to new markets where there are important unmet
medical needs and attractive commercial opportunities.
Oncology is expected to be one of these markets, with
growth driven by an aging population and the rapid discovery
of new genetic biomarkers.
The Company’s oncology efforts are built around the
highly specific prostate cancer gene PCA3. Gen-Probe’s
PCA3 program moved ahead on several fronts during
2006.
