The Human Platelet antigens (HPAs) can be targets for alloimmune and autoimmune antibody responses that cause life-threatening bleeding disorders, such as refractoriness to platelet transfusions, post-transfusion purpura and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia.

LIFECODES ThromboType and ThromboType1 are replacements for platelet serological testing and adjuncts to HLA matching in selecting compatible platelets for alloimmunized recipients. ThromboType contains the reagents necessary to identify an individual’s genotype for HPA-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 15, using a gel endpoint. ThromboType1 contains the reagents necessary to identify an individual’s genotype for HPA-1 using a gel endpoint.^1,2
